Flash Fiction Friday

FLASH FICTION FRIDAY

We use simple prompts to inspire several short bursts of timed writing — typically 10 minutes each. During that time, you can write whatever you like: flash fiction, a scene for a short story, a dialogue, a poem, or a passage of your memoir. When the time is up, you can share your results. You can also indicate whether you’d like feedback. Our focus is on support, inspiration, advice, and encouragement for writers who would like to start (and finish) longer works over time.

SPECIAL LIMITED-TIME BONUS

New members get a free copy of the “Flash Fiction” booklet by organizer Corrine Kenner. (While supplies last.)

Writers Workshop Critique Group

ABOUT

Our writers’ workshops run for eight weeks at a time, and they’re designed for serious writers who are committed to publishing their work. Previous publication isn’t a prerequisite; beginners are as welcome as professionals.

Each workshop is limited to six writers who agree to participate fully and enthusiastically.

We’ll meet once a week to share our current WIPs, offer constructive feedback, and discuss the business of publishing and promotion.

SCHEDULE

This Session: August 2-September 20, 2016

Next Session: January 10-February 28, 2017

MEMBERSHIP

To apply for membership in the Creative Guidance Writers Workshop, email corrine *at* creativeguidance *dot* com, attach a sample of your writing, and include the following information:

• Describe your writing experience

• Describe your current work in progress

• Describe your writing goals

• Your name

• Your email address

• Your phone number

WRITERS WORKSHOP FORMAT

• Bring a maximum of 5 pages (double-spaced) to read out loud, with printed copies for the other members of the group.

• While you read, the rest of us will take notes.

• Each of us will offer at least one minute of feedback, but no more than three minutes of commentary.

• We’ll start with positive feedback, highlighting our favorite passages.

• We’ll follow that with questions, requests for clarification, and suggestions for improvements.

• We’ll never demand changes. Instead, our goal is simply to help you spot the strengths and weaknesses in your work, and serve as a sounding board during the creative process.

• While you listen to comments, take notes and be inspired. You don’t need to defend your writing, because we all understand that your work is still in progress.

• While we also understand that writing is personal, this is a professional group — and when you join, you promise to accept all comments and questions with patience and an open mind.

• On occasion, we’ll move beyond reading and critiquing to enjoy a group project or event.
