Start from Scratch: Let’s Build Your Writer’s Website

If your website needs a new look — or if you don’t even have a website yet — let’s build one together.

PRIVATE COACHING

This is a private coaching session, so you’ll have my undivided attention. If today’s session is already booked, check the calendar for additional dates.

STEP-BY-STEP GUIDANCE

I’ll work with you, from start to finish, and in two hours you’ll have a brand new, fully functional WordPress site with all the bells and whistles.

Best of all, you’ll learn how to update it and maintain it yourself. I’ll give you a detailed instruction guide to take home, so you’ll remember what you learned.

YOUR NEW SITE WILL INCLUDE:

• An attention-getting home page

• A stylish page for your blog posts

• An “about” page for your author biography

• An FAQ page to generate interest in your work

• A contact form

• A mailing list signup

• Facebook and Twitter integration

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Nothing but your laptop. We’re starting from scratch, with a new, modern theme that you can customize with your own choice of images and text. Once your site is up and running, you can import content from another site, or simply create new material as you go.

COST

The coaching session is $125, but your new website — including the hosting and domain name — will be free.

I’ll show you how to get free, high-quality images and graphics for your new website, too.

SNEAK PREVIEW

This is the template we’ll use to start. We’ll customize it just for you.

Writers Workshop Critique Group

Writers Workshop Critique Group

ABOUT

Our writers’ workshops run for eight weeks at a time, and they’re designed for serious writers who are committed to publishing their work. Previous publication isn’t a prerequisite; beginners are as welcome as professionals.

Each workshop is limited to six writers who agree to participate fully and enthusiastically.

We’ll meet once a week to share our current WIPs, offer constructive feedback, and discuss the business of publishing and promotion.

SCHEDULE

This Session: August 2-September 20, 2016

Next Session: January 12-March 2, 2017

MEMBERSHIP

To apply for membership in the Creative Guidance Writers Workshop, email corrine *at* creativeguidance *dot* com, attach a sample of your writing, and include the following information:

• Describe your writing experience

• Describe your current work in progress

• Describe your writing goals

• Your name

• Your email address

• Your phone number

WRITERS WORKSHOP FORMAT

• Bring a maximum of 5 pages (double-spaced) to read out loud, with printed copies for the other members of the group.

• While you read, the rest of us will take notes.

• Each of us will offer at least one minute of feedback, but no more than three minutes of commentary.

• We’ll start with positive feedback, highlighting our favorite passages.

• We’ll follow that with questions, requests for clarification, and suggestions for improvements.

• We’ll never demand changes. Instead, our goal is simply to help you spot the strengths and weaknesses in your work, and serve as a sounding board during the creative process.

• While you listen to comments, take notes and be inspired. You don’t need to defend your writing, because we all understand that your work is still in progress.

• While we also understand that writing is personal, this is a professional group — and when you join, you promise to accept all comments and questions with patience and an open mind.

• On occasion, we’ll move beyond reading and critiquing to enjoy a group project or event.

Start from Scratch: Let’s Build Your Writer’s Website

Flash Fiction Friday: Magnetic Poetry

THIS FRIDAY’S TOPIC: Magnetic Poetry.

On Flash Fiction Fridays, we use simple prompts to inspire several short bursts of timed writing — typically 10 minutes each. During that time, you can write whatever you like: flash fiction, a scene for a short story, a dialogue, a poem, or a passage of your memoir. When the time is up, you can share your results. You can also indicate whether you’d like feedback. Our focus is on support, inspiration, advice, and encouragement for writers who would like to start (and finish) longer works over time.

SPECIAL LIMITED-TIME BONUS: New members get a free copy of the “Flash Fiction” booklet by organizer Corrine Kenner. (While supplies last.)
